Why might someone require a coach?

Kai was having a rough time at work. There had been a breakdown in communication between himself and his manager resulting in said manager complaining to HR about Kai’s ‘poor performance’ and ‘bad attitude’. Kai felt that his manager ‘has it in’ for him and has done ever since he called her out on her poor treatment of another colleague. Kai also mentioned that the workplace adjustments that he required to do his job effectively had been ignored by his manager despite Kai putting in multiple requests.

A meeting had been scheduled with Kai and a HR representative for him to respond to the allegations. Kai was nervous and knew from previous experience that he can get angry and find it hard to articulate himself in stressful situations.

Kai felt he would benefit from some coaching to help him prepare for the meeting and work on being able to articulate his thoughts calmly and effectively.

Amina found it difficult to speak up for herself both at work and amongst her family and friends and as a result, regularly found herself agreeing to do things she didn’t want to and missing out on the things that she did. She was also a self-confessed ‘people pleaser’ and was quite shy.

Amina was aware that her shyness and inability to speak up for herself were holding her back both personally and professionally. There was a job she wanted to apply for but never went ahead with the application because although she had the right qualifications, the role involved some leadership and people management responsibilities which worried her.

Amina wants to excel in her career and knows that she must address her lack of confidence to do this.

She wanted to work with a coach to figure out how to build her confidence so she could progress in her career.
